Die cutting multiple layers of quilt pieces and appliqué shapes can open new design horizons and speed up the creation and cutting process. Quilt artists from around the nation used Sizzix dies to create a spectacular array designs and patterns, with accuracy and intricacy, using a variety of fabric types. With die cutting, the quilt artist is not limited to just quilting cotton and can confidently move in new directions with other fabrics like silk, denim and wool, adding interest and impact to their quilts.

The exhibit is anchored by two very special quilts: Bonnie’s Rocky Mountain Star, a quilt designed exclusively for the magazine’s 45th Anniversary Issue cover (August/September 2014) by Mary Leman Austin, daughter of Quilters Newsletter founder Bonnie Leman: and Anniversary Stars, also designed exclusively for Quilters Newsletter by Judy Martin, author, teacher and former magazine staff member. The pattern for Anniversary Stars will be available in the October/November 2014 issue of Quilters Newsletter.

Using today’s latest technology and their own contemporary interpretations, these master long-arm quilters channeled the creativity of the original quilters as they stitched new life into these lovely vintage quilts.
