Master the four basic techniques needed for serging knits: seaming, neckbands, hems and applying elastic. This hands-on class covers basic seaming on a variety of knit types, where and when to use stabilizers and topstitching. Several hemming options will also be covered including cover stitch basics on a variety of knit fabrics. Simple elastic waistbands for pull-on pants and a professional cover stitch option will also be explored. You will complete multiple samples that you can apply with confidence on future projects.

    Basic serging skills helpful

  • Supply List:
    • Rotary cutter with new blade, and rotary ruler.
    • Scissors and tweezers.
    • Pins or Wonder clips not jumbo.
    • Seam ripper, marking tools and tape measure.
    • 4 to 8 safety pins size1.5-inch.
    • Fabric glue pen (optional).
    • 4 different color serger threads in bright colors.
    • Any sewing notion you cannot sew without.
    • Note: Rotary cutting mats will be available in the classroom, be sure to label all sewing tools with your name.
  • Completion Level:

    3 to 4 samples of various techniques
