Embark on a journey with American textile artist, Jessica Kaufman, into the intricate world of batiks. After studying with a 5th generation woodblock batik master in Gujarat, India, Jessica has unique insights for creating batik fabric. Learn how the woodblocks are made; then watch a demonstration as she uses the blocks to print repeated designs in beeswax on cotton fabric. Students will also get an introduction to immersion dyeing with fiber reactive dyes. This colorful, culturally rich lecture will surely inspire you to try your own fabric art! After class shop the instructor's trunk show for one-of-a-kind fabrics dyed by hand.
