This petite version of a pintucked doll dress and pinafore, showcased in the Summer 2018 issue of Classic Sewing magazine, will be a delight to make using your serger or sewing machine. During this class, Alicia will not only show you how to make these tiny tucks using a serger capable of doing a cover stitch, but also by sewing machine. This way, there is no need to worry if you do not have a cover stitch serger! This adorable doll dress and pinafore are sized to fit an 18" doll.

    2. Cutting and Fabric Prep:

    a. From the cotton broadcloth, cut the following: i. One rectangle 12 x 40 inch for the skirt ii. Two dress front bodices on the fold iii. Two dress back bodices on the fold iv. Two sleeves on the fold

    b. From the cotton batiste, cut the following: i. One rectangle 10 x 18 inch for the skirt ii. Two strips 4-1/2 x 20 inch for the waist ties iii. One 5 inch square for the pinafore front iv. Two strips 1-1/2 x 8-1/2 inch for the straps v. Two strips 1-1/4 x 10-1/2 inch for the waistband

    3. Serger Set-Up: a. If doing the pintucks by serger, set the serger for a narrow cover stitch using the needle positions indicated in the instructions that come with the Cover Stitch Pintuck foot and attach the foot and the raised guide. If not using the foot, use the needle positions indicated in your manual. Use either color of thread (matching the pinafore or matching the dress). We will do all pintucks first. Note: In the sample, I used white thread for everything. We will talk about settings during the class.

    4. Sewing Machine Set-Up a. Thread with either color of thread (matching the pinafore or matching the dress). We will do all pintucks first. Note: In the sample, I used white thread for everything. Set the machine for a straight stitch with a length of 2.5.
