- Advance Prep: From layer cake (10 inch squares):
Select 33 of your favorite squares
Tip: The more colorful the fabrics are, the more contrast your quilt will have.
- Cut each of those 10 inch squares in half, then in half again to yield four 5 inch x 5 inch squares.
- Trim two of the 5 inch squares into 4 7/8 x 4 7/8 inch squares. Set aside.
- Cut the remaining two 5 inch squares into 2 1/2 inch x 4 1/2 inch rectangles.
- Repeat for all 33 layer cake squares. Each 10 inch square will yield two 4 7/8 inch squares and four 2.5 inch x 4.5 inch rectangles.
From white/cream solid fabrics, cut:
- 9 - 4 7/8 inch x WOF (width of fabric) strips,
- Then, subcut into the following pieces:
- 66 - 4 7/8 x 4 7/8 inch squares
- 6 - 2 1/2 inch x WOF strips {borders}
- Supply List: Paper scissors, fabric scissors, small scissors or snips, straight pins, pencil, marking instrument (pen, pencil or chalk) and seam ripper.
Fabrics:
- One collection of precut 10 inch squares, typically made up of 42 pieces of coordinating fabric (sometimes referred to as a Layer Cake)
- 2 yards solid white or cream fabric
- Completion Level: Will complete several blocks in class and may even construct some rows of their quilt top
