Lots of options and a new aesthetic make choosing quilting designs to use on modern quilts a new challenge for many of us.  Learn some amazingly simple free-hand designs that are adaptable and effective in achieving texture and movement in the often irregularly shaped piecing and large areas of negative space found in many modern quilts. Master the basic designs, then learn how you can add to them to create more complex variations to achieve the look you want. Discuss using the same clues as with traditional quilts when deciding on a quilting plan -- looking at fabric patterns and piecing shapes within the quilt for inspiration. The adaptability of these very simple designs is amazing – use them in their basic form for a minimalist effect, or keep stitching for a more complex look.  They can be used in a block, a border, enlarged for an allover quilting design or reduced for use as a tiny backfill.  Perfect!
