Monday 4:00pm – Wednesday 4:45pm    Begin with Cynthia’s legendary fitting expertise, as you create your waist-to-hip shape -- the starting point for designing all styles of skirts that fit you well. You’ll explore the all-important issue of grain: how using fabric on the bias influences the drape and ‘flirtiness’ of a skirt, and how to control shape by using the straight-of-grain. You’ll come to an understanding about darts, too – where they are, why they are, and how to move them (and even remove them) to achieve the style you’re after. Learn to add fullness in just the right places, take it away in the wrong ones and more, as Cynthia helps you find your most flattering silhouettes, so you can create your very best looks right away.

Consider just some of the options: maxi, midi, knee and mini; pencil, a-line, flared, gored, pleated, gathered, tiered and circle; waistband (contour or not), faced waist and yoke. Cynthia’s guidance is invaluable as you begin to combine these elements and consider them alongside fabric decisions. Whether you live in skirts or haven’t worn one in years (but would love to!), this is your chance to become a confident designer of wonderfully fitting, flattering and fun to wear skirts for all seasons and lifestyle moments. From fast and easy summer delights to tailored, business-ready fashion, your skirt options can become limitless!

The number of skirts you create (or create the patterns for) during this retreat workshop is entirely up to you -- your experience level, work speed and whether you want to create the patterns or actually make the skirts. The bonus: enjoying how much you’ll learn from observing others in class – adjusting for fit at the outset, then finding the right combination of style ingredients as the designing begins.
