The Tucker Trimmer tool was designed to be used with square units that are divided diagonally, such as half square triangle units, quarter square triangle units and combination units (two quarter square triangles + one half square triangle). These basic shapes tend to be problematic to produce well. The solution is to oversize, then trim after the sewing and pressing are completed. The Tucker Trimmer, with its patented diagonal guidelines, makes that trimming quick and accurate every time. Discover how all these units can be made with this one tool, which benefits quilters of all experience levels – and you’ll wonder how you ever quilted without one! Bonus: if you like the idea of a memory quilt, but no desire to make a HUGE bed size one, or if you like to add machine embroidery or photos to your projects, this is a great idea-building session! The Rangeley Star is a perfect block for this purpose (the star is beautiful without those elements, too, of course). Learn to adapt this pattern to create a wall hanging, pillow or table runner as well.

This workshop is designed to introduce students to patented tools and techniques which help all students increase their piecing success rate. The focus in the introductory class will be on the use of one particular tool during the session. Students will learn how to recognize the shape, how to use the tool to trim the units, how to adapt the processes to any pattern, and what the benefits are for purposely oversizing and then trimming down. Hands on practice creating a few shapes/blocks during the workshop will enable everyone to use their new tool with confidence in many future quilting projects.

We will start with the 8 1/2 inch squares as both patterns use that size block. Please place the units for each size star in a separate marked zip lock bag. This will make sure pieces do not get misplaced or used in the wrong block. We will be making sample stars, allowing you to pick fabrics for your specific pattern after the class!
