Runway Knock Offs: Fashion Show
Jim Suzio
Films, magazines, newspapers, television, fashion/style trendsetters are everywhere. We gaze in awe at the gowns on the red carpet, knowing an Edith Head, a Givenchy, an Oleg Cassini or a Carolina Herrera original would be far from our reach. Yet, if you sew, the look is just a thread away. From the elegant look of Susan Sarandon in "Feud:Bette and Joan" (as Bette Davis in "All About Eve") to Lily James' "bohemian style" (in "Mamma Mia 2, Here We Go Again"), to classics like Audrey and Jackie, join us as Jim Suzio features his recreations of these and several other iconic looks on the fashion runway. As Jim would say, "Don't just follow fashion, create it!"

Ursuline College Fashion Show: The Little Black Dress

Commentated by Dr. Connie Korosec, Ph.D.

Ursuline College fashion program students were inspired by the rich history of fashion found in the 20th Century Little Black Dress. It was CoCo Chanel who said, “women should be classy and beautiful in a little black dress.” The students were inspired by the LBD and a Styrofoam cup creating “one-of-kind collection” of wearable fashion. Ursuline students and alums are showing a sample of their original designs.

Ursuline College Historic Costume Study Collection – Little Black Dresses: Ursuline Historic Costume Study Collection contains over 4,000 20th Century pieces including LBD designs from Bob Mackie, Adolfo, Pamela Dennis, Bill Blass, and CoCo Chanel.

Original Designs: Students in the Ursuline College fashion program utilized the skills they learned from coursework in draping and flat pattern classes to create their outfits on the runway. Both design and merchandising students take courses from Jennifer Knaus’s fundamentals I and II, draping, and flat pattern. All while learning to design, fit, and construct garments to a client.
