Tuesday AND Wednesday 9am-5pm    Fast and easy needn’t mean mass-produced or impersonal, as you’ll quickly see in this two-day extravaganza of techniques and projects from Kathy and Alicia. Complete six projects, all coordinated and centered around a day at the spa -- even the spa is your own deck or sofa. You WILL complete your projects swiftly -- because most of the construction is done on the serger. And they WILL be personalized, too, as you’ll spend half your time with the embroidery hoop (a machine embroidery hoop, that is)!

At the end of this two-day, jam-packed workshop, you’ll have a perfect collection of items to present at wedding or baby showers, on Mother’s Day or to simply share with anyone in your life who needs a little pampering – even (and especially) if it’s you!

Think about how fabulous it’ll feel to wrap up in the luscious, soft, baby-knit spa robe, complete with embroidery and pretty details. If you’ve hesitated at the thought of serging a knit to a woven fabric, those days are over! You’ll do just that as you complete this kimono-style wrap with coordinating woven cotton bands and belt on the serger, and add a bit of embroidery, too on the banded pocket.

You'll be able to carry your spa necessities in a roomy coordinated tote, complete with an inside zipper pocket, and quickly access your double gauze headband when you stow it in outside pocket. Created on the serger and with an embroidered hang tag, the tote is a pretty and practical way to organize your day’s supplies. Add personalized scuffs with delicate details for your (soon-to-be pedicured) feet, a zippered cosmetic case for lotions and potions, and top it all off with a heat-resistant flat or curling iron sleeve – you’ll learn about InsulBright ® and chainstitch quilting on the serger when you make this project.

While you’re turning out project after perfect project, you’ll master a collection of useful serger techniques including three and four thread overlock, cover stitch, cover stitch hemming, chainstitch quilting and more. Learn how and where to use differential feed and belt loop binders, too. It’s a serger tutorial…. and way more fun than that sounds!

In the embroidery studio you’ll pick up lots of how-to tips and great techniques for working with a range of different fabrics and surfaces: embroider the baby-soft knit, experience in-the-hoop applique on the tote hang-tag, add embroidery to a zippered cosmetic case and more as you learn to identify and find items that are suitable for machine embroidery (even though they might not at first appear that way). You’ll embroider, for example, not only on thick terry cloth, but also on a couple of “How in the world do I hoop that?!” items as well! Every piece in the collection has its own lessons, and your embroidery skills, creativity and confidence will grow with each of them.

Moving between the Serger Studio with Kathy, and the Embroidery Studio with Alicia (and their trusty assistants), you’ll be thrilled with their fun, step-by-step process just as much (or more) than with the finished projects. Sometimes you’ll embroider first, other times you’ll serge first and then embroider, but either way, you’ll finish your projects and leave with a sense of total satisfaction – like a day at the spa (only better)!
