Supply List:
Paper scissors, fabric scissors, small scissors or snips, straight pins, pencil, marking instrument (pen, pencil or chalk) and seam ripper.
Fabric requirements:
Choose either quilt (60 x 72 inches) or table runner (18 x 42 inches) version. All blocks finish at 12 inches square. Pre-cutting your background fabric(s) will help speed up your progress during class.
Quilt Size (60 x 72 inches): for every two star blocks, you will need one fat 8th of fabric. There are 30 blocks total, and so...
For the stars:
- For all stars different fabrics: one fat 16th (9x11 inches) of 30 fabrics;
- For two of the same stars throughout: one fat 8th (9 x 22 inches) of 15 different fabrics;
- For all stars the same fabric: 1 yard of a single fabric (this assumes very efficient cutting, you may like to have a bit more just in case)
For the background: choose as many fabrics as you like! Kelly used 30 different fat quarters (18 x 22 inches) in the quilt as pictured. You will need, total:
- 240 - 3.5 inch squares (as a reference: 11 squares per 3.5 inch WOF strip = 22 - 3.5 inch WOF strips; OR, cut up to 30 - 3.5 inch squares from a single fat quarter)
- 120 - 4 inch squares (as a reference: 10 per 4 inch WOF strip = 12 - 4 inch WOF strips; OR, cut up to 20 - 4 inch squares from a single fat quarter)
Table Runner (18 x 42 inches):
For the stars:
- 3 fat 16ths (9 x 11 inch each), assuming each star is a different fabric;
Background:
- 60 - 3.5 inch squares (includes an additional border of patchwork around the stars for increased runner width)
- 12 - 4 inch squares
