If you’ve had fun with foundation piecing, this is a perfect time for more advanced piecers and adventurous stitchers to meet the challenge of “more”: more visual complexity, more satisfaction, more beautiful projects. With a nod to the traditional Dresden Plate block, Carl’s vibrant interpretation brings together two techniques used over and over again in creative quiltmaking. Take your skills up a notch as you experience Carl’s practical tips and handy hints, updating your precision cutting and stitching toolbox. Bring your own fabric; see supply list for details.

Shattered Dresden Fabric Requirements for One Block

    (20) - 10 inch X WOF strips for the blades and diamonds (Fabrics A-T)
    1 yard background fabric
    1/4 yard binding
    5/8 yard for pillow back
**To cut the reverse templates, place two strips right sides together and cut the regular and reverse piece at the same time.

Trace each template onto the template plastic and carefully cut out with scissors. Each template includes a generous 1/2” seam allowance to allow for coverage of the foundation. I have provided the templates to both conserve fabric and to make it easier to complete with the odd angles within each block.

Make sure to print the templates at “Actual Size.”
